Smart girls' guide to great jeans.✨👖

OK girls, it's time to spill the beans on how to get the perfect jeans for YOU.

After working with hundreds of clients, it's the Number One item that causes frustration.

Here are my top tips for finding a killer pair of jeans or two that will look fabulous and won't break the bank.

First, a word on fabric and fit;

When purchasing jeans, they should feel snug when you try them on. All jeans stretch, so I recommend 100% cotton or maybe 1% elastane so that they keep their shape and you get that nice crisp fitted look.

We have all been guilty of buying jeans with lots of stretch. You know the ones- they felt great at the time, with all that elastane.

Then before you know it, they go saggy and baggy in all the wrong places.

So check the care label before you spend your hard-earned money or better still, try some of my favorites.

The bonus of 100 per cent cotton means that your jeans will act like Spanx (shapewear). This is a huge win for all my girls who have had a baby or two! Smoothing those mum tums and making us look fabulously trim. So hopefully I've convinced you to hunt down all cotton jeans.

Next, ditch those low-waisted jeans.

They are synonymous with 'muffin tops'.

High-waisted jeans are the most flattering on most body types.

If you have a very short torso, opt for mid-rise jeans; otherwise, high-rise jeans are perfect to give the illusion of longer legs. Longer legs make you look taller and slimmer, which is a fabulous bonus!

For versatility and longevity, avoid jeans with rips, whiskering and acid wash. My top picks for colours include - black, charcoal, dark indigo, white, mid and light blue.

Just about every style of jeans is 'in' right now. I'll run through the most popular styles, which body type they suit and how to wear them.

Belinda from Department of Style shares 3 ways to style jeans this winter.

Skinny

While this style has been gradually fading out, it still has its place.

I love skinny jeans with chunky boots and a cropped oversized knit for winter or a cute cami and heels for a hot date.

Straight and Tapered

These are the next 'notch' up from skinny that are slightly looser through the leg and ankle.

This style is very versatile and a nod to the current style without going overly wide.

Straight and Tapered are great for most body shapes. If you are petite, these will be more flattering than a wider style.

Wide, Flared and Mom

These styles look amazing on curvy and pear-shaped girls.

The width at the ankle balances out hips and thighs and looks VA VA VOOM!!

For that final look of finesse, don’t forget to get your jeans professionally tailored. It makes a huge difference to the overall look of your outfit.

Take the shoes you plan to wear with the jeans with you to the tailor.

Tip - you may need different jeans for different occasions.

You might go for a mum style of jeans with your sneakers and a heeled boot for your straight fit going out jeans.

I don’t think you can make one pair of jeans work for every occasion.

Ask your tailor for the original finish to make your jeans look like they came off the hanger at the perfect length. You want to keep that stitching detail in the bottom of the jeans, not just turn up the hem.

To make life easy, I've rounded up my favs as worn, tried and tested by myself and clients. ✨
